Young Creators’ Oasis

Art EducationUpon completing a work of art, after investing one’s full effort, art appreciation becomes the fuel that drives an artist’s spirit. This spirit is what can ignite an artist’s passion for continuous exploration. It is closely related to the art infrastructure, including education (museums, educational institutions like art schools), exhibition spaces such as galleries, and the people or stakeholders involved, such as curators, art critics, artists, appreciators and art enthusiasts, collectors, and art dealers.

In my area in Sumatra, Indonesia, this aspect is sorely lacking. It remains a collective responsibility for all art stakeholders. This presents a contradiction: should artists, who are already dedicated to their craft, also bear the burden of building education, appreciation, and even exhibition spaces themselves? This naturally requires resources, both in terms of time and material, making it far from an easy task.

In light of this, I have been driven to take on a role in education and legacy. I’ve started building an educational space for children in creativity and art. I believe it’s crucial to start with the younger generation, sowing the seeds of appreciation for creativity as early as possible. Hopefully, these seeds will grow into roles in the generations to come.

I’ve transformed a small 4×4 meter space in my home, originally a garage, into a room for exchanging ideas with children about art, teaching them basic techniques in art creation, and conveying creative ideas. Currently, the wall and fence work is only 60% complete. If things go according to schedule, classes will open next month in October. I hope everything goes smoothly. Thank you.
