The art market is beginning to witness a drastic increase, especially as offline activities resume post-pandemic. There seems to be a longing among organizers and global art stakeholders to see new works from artists.

In Asia, annual art fairs continue to be held regularly. Despite interruptions during the pandemic era, some have shifted to online formats. However, in 2023, we are witnessing a significant turnout of art enthusiasts and collectors attending art events in several major cities in Asia. Especially in Indonesia, there is a noticeable succession of art events ranging from art fairs such as Bali Art Moment, Jakarta Art Moment, Jakarta Art Fair, Artjog, to biennale events in several cities across Indonesia.

• ART SG (Singapore Art Week) is the largest art fair in Southeast Asia held in Singapore. This event commenced in 2023, showcasing works by Southeast Asian artists, including installation art, art discussions, and experimental films. Featuring renowned international galleries, key sections of the event include solo artist exhibitions, the introduction of new galleries, large-scale installations, and galleries introducing emerging artists. For the year 2024, ART SG is scheduled to take place from January 18 to 24, 2024, at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, 10 Bayfront Ave, Singapore.
• SEA Focus 2024 (Singapore Art Week) is an art platform and event hosted by Singapore. Focused on Southeast Asian art, this event provides artists, curators, and art enthusiasts with a space to showcase their works to the world through discussions, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges. The exhibition is scheduled for January 2024, aligning with the Singapore Art Week, and will take place at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, 39 Keppel Rd, Singapore.

• India Art Fair 2024, initially known as the India Art Summit, is an annual exhibition of contemporary art in India held in New Delhi. This art fair primarily focuses on the works of artists from South Asia. For the year 2024, the India Art Fair is scheduled to take place from February 1 to 4, 2024, at the NSIC Exhibition Grounds, Okhla Industrial Estate, New Delhi.
• Art Fair Philippines 2024 is the largest art fair in the Philippines with a focus on Southeast Asian art. Art Fair Philippines is scheduled to take place in February 2024 at The Link, Ayala Centre Parkway Dr, Makati, Manila, Philippines.

• Art Basel Hong Kong is an art fair with a primary focus on the art market, connecting galleries with collectors. Basel is held annually in various locations such as Basel, Switzerland, Miami, and, notably, in Asia, in Hong Kong. This fair places a significant emphasis on arts from Asia and the surrounding regions. For the current year, Art Basel Hong Kong is scheduled to take place in March 2024 at the Convention & Exhibition Centre, 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong, China.
• Art Central is held in parallel with the Art Basel Hong Kong event, showcasing works by Asian artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. It is scheduled for March 2024 and will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
• Art Fair Tokyo is one of the two art fairs held in Tokyo. Started in 2005, its purpose is to bring together Japanese and global art, bridging classical and traditional art with contemporary art. This art fair often exhibits a diverse range of works in terms of media and style. The Art Fair Tokyo for this year is scheduled for March 2024 and will be held at Tokyo International Forum Hall E and Lobby Gallery, 3 Chrome-5-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
• Art Busan is an art and design exhibition held at the center of Korean art and culture in Busan. This event is part of the Korea International Art Fair (KIAF), held annually. • Art Tainan 2024 is an exhibition founded by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA) in 2012. This event is the most iconic art fair in southern Taiwan and is eagerly anticipated. For this year, Art Tainan is scheduled to take place in March 2024, at Silks Place Tainan Hotel, No.1 Heyi Rd, West Central District, Tainan City, 700 Taiwan.

• Art Revolution Taipei is a major art event in Taiwan, with a focus on the development of artists as the center of its activities. Art Revolution Taipei started in 2011 and showcases works by artists from around the world and Asia. The event is scheduled to take place in April 2024 at the Taipei World Trade Centre.

• Beijing Contemporary Art Expo is the largest art expo in Beijing, started in 2018. The expo aims to promote contemporary Chinese art to the world. This year, the Beijing Contemporary Art Expo is scheduled to take place in May 2024 at the National Agricultural Exhibition Centre, Shichahai, Chaoyang Qu, Beijing.
• Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong is an art fair with a specific goal of connecting collectors with artworks, particularly those that are affordable. This exhibition serves as a space for new collectors to acquire small works from established artists and provides opportunities for emerging artists to reach collectors. In addition to the art fair, the event also includes workshops and creative talks. Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong is scheduled to take place in May 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
• ART Solo 2024 is an art fair that chooses to stand out by advancing the concept of solo exhibitions, allowing appreciators to comprehend the artist’s works more comprehensively. ART Solo is scheduled to take place in May 2024 at the EXPO Dome, Taipei Expo Park No.1, Yumen Street, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan.

• Art Taichung is another art event initiated by the Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA). The event is scheduled to take place in July 2024 at the Greater Taichung International Expo Centre.
• Artjog 2024 is an art exhibition showcasing the best works of contemporary Indonesian artists. This well-curated exhibition is curated by some of the best curators in Indonesia. Artjog has been held several times and often garners significant attention, especially among art enthusiasts in Indonesia and around the world. Artjog typically takes place in July and is held in the city of Yogyakarta.
• Georgetown Penang Festival

• KIAF (Korea International Art Fair) Seoul / Art Seoul is the first and largest art fair in South Korea. This event often showcases edgy and cool contemporary art, meticulously curated by several major galleries worldwide. The exhibited works come not only from Asian artists but also from artists around the world. The displayed media are highly diverse, ranging from sculptures, installations, wall art to photography. This event typically spans 4 days and is held annually. For this year, KIAF is scheduled to take place in September 2024 at 159 Samsung-dong, Kangnam-gu, Seoul, 135-731, South Korea.

• Art021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair will be held in November 2024 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre.
• Shanghai International Art Fair is an art fair with a focus on contemporary Chinese art. Organized by the Global Art Agency, this event was first held in 2019. This year, the Shanghai International Art Fair is scheduled to take place in November 2024 at Hall 7.2H Museum of Culture and Life.
• Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2024 is an art event first initiated in 1999 in London Battersea. Similar to the Affordable Art Fair in Hong Kong, this art fair brings collectors together with affordable artworks. Affordable Art Fair Singapore is scheduled to take place in November 2024 at F1 Pit Building, 1 Republic Boulevard, Singapore 038975.

Those are some art events that will be held throughout the year 2024. Of course, since some of these events are still in progress and development, the schedule and locations are tentative and subject to change at any time due to various factors and conditions. However, there are some major art fairs that I haven’t listed yet because their dates are still unclear, including Art Jakarta and Art Moments Jakarta.
